Using Your BuzzClip
Can the BuzzClip detect really small objects?
The BuzzClip can detect even the smallest wires and tree branches, so don’t worry, it will warn you if there is anything in your direct path.
Is ultrasound safe for the body?
Yes, there are no harmful effects. (Ultrasound has been used to produce images of babies for decades)
Will I still need to use my cane or guide dog if I start using the BuzzClip?
The BuzzClip is not meant to be a replacement for white canes or guide dogs. It can help It can be used alone if you are partially sighted and need to protect your blind spots. If you are a current cane or guide dog user however, you can use the BuzzClip for upper body protection that a cane or guide dog cannot offer.
I am partially sighted, is the BuzzClip useful for me?
Yes. If you have moderate loss of focal or peripheral vision, the BuzzClip is also useful for you. Its versatility allows you to attach it in the direction of your blind spots. No longer will you have to worry about running into anything or anyone.
Can I use more than one BuzzClip at once?
Yes. Multiple BuzzClips can be used at a time for greater coverage of your body. This would give you more information about your immediate surroundings; one BuzzClip on the chest and one on each sleeve to protect your front and sides.
What is the detection range of the BuzzClip?
BuzzClip has a 30-degree conical detection range. If worn on the upper chest (for example on a collar) it will cover your upper body (waist to head level) and warn you of any obstacles that might collide with you within this range.
Can I detect obstacles at varying distances?
Yes, the BuzzClip has 3 distance settings. You can toggle between 3-meters, 2-meters and 1-meter to cater to your surrounding environment, using one of two buttons on the device. We recommend the 3-meter and 2-meter mode for outdoors and the 1-meter mode for indoors.
Can the BuzzClip be used as a handheld?
Yes. If you lift and rotate the sensor arm slightly past 90 degrees it will lock at a 90-degree angle, making the BuzzClip convenient for handheld use. To return the sensor arm from the locked position, move the sensor arm slightly past 90 degrees again, slide the stopper to the right and the sensor will release and move back into its normal configuration.
Will the BuzzClip make loud noises when it vibrates?
We understand that echolocation is extremely important for legally blind individuals. The BuzzClip will make minimal noise and will not interfere with your echolocation.
Will the BuzzClip vibrate constantly when I'm talking to someone?
No. When the BuzzClip measures a distance that does not change for more than 3 - 4 seconds (i.e. when you are talking to someone who is at a constant fixed distance away), the BuzzClip will go to sleep until you or the person moves again.
Charging your BuzzClip
Is the BuzzClip rechargeable?
Yes. The BuzzClip is rechargeable with a micro USB charger, just like many android phones on the market.
How often do I need to charge my BuzzClip?
The BuzzClip will last up to 10 hours under rigorous use. It will easily last the full day under normal use. We recommend that you charge it over night after using it.
How often should I charge the BuzzClip?
The BuzzClip will indicate its current battery level through vibrations upon switching on.
- 4 vibrations indicate that the battery is above 75%.
- 3 vibrations indicate the battery is between 50%–75%
- 2 vibrations indicate the battery is between 25%–50%
- 1 vibration indicates that the battery is less than 25%, Charge it soon!
Wearing Your BuzzClip
Where should I wear my BuzzClip?
We are proud to say that the BuzzClip is the most versatile ultrasonic proximity detector on the market! You can wear your BuzzClip anywhere based on your vision needs. We recommend the following:
- on the lapel of your coat or jacket
- between the buttons of a shirt
- on your sleeves (long or short)
- around your beltline
- on pockets
Will it work with thick winter clothes?
The BuzzClip is designed so that it can be attached to even the thickest winter jackets. Bring on the Canada Goose!
What if I drop my BuzzClip?
Our package comes with a cord lanyard to ensure that you don’t drop or lose your BuzzClip.
Can I use my BuzzClip in rainy conditions?
The BuzzClip is water resistant. It will function perfectly in light to moderate rain. Don’t go swimming with it though!
What happens if I drop my BuzzClip in snow?
The BuzzClip’s sensor has a meshed surface thus if water or snow falls directly on the sensor, it may create a film of water across the mesh. This may cause the device to stop functioning properly. To resolve this, simply shake the water/snow out of the sensor, let it dry and it will resume working normally.

Does the BuzzClip come with a warranty?
Yes, we offer a 12 month limited warranty from the date of purchase on all BuzzClips.
What does the limited warranty cover?
This limited warranty covers any defects in material or workmanship under normal use during the Warranty Period. The warranty will cover any product that is defective because of improper material, usage, or if the customer received the product broken.
During the Warranty Period, iMerciv Inc. will repair or replace, at no charge, products or parts of a product that proves defective because of improper material or workmanship, under normal use and maintenance. Download the full Warranty & Disclaimers Information for further details.
Purchasing & Shipping
What will be included in a shipping package?
One (1) BuzzClip, one (1) charger, one (1) charge cord, one (1) Cord Lanyard (to ensure you don't drop/lose your BuzzClip) and one (1) Instruction Manual.
What is the shipping cost in Canada?
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind is our exclusive distributor in Canada. If you select Canada from the dropdown menu of our Order button, you will be redirected to the BuzzClip order page on CNIB’s online store.
What is the shipping cost to the United States?
Shipping is a flat rate of $35 for all orders in the U.S.
What is the shipping cost outside of the U.S. & Canada?
Shipping is a flat rate of $45 for all orders that are in Europe. If you are located in either Austria, France, Germany or Switzerland, please select that option from the dropdown menu on our Order button, and you will be redirected to your local distributor.
For all other orders outside of North America and Europe, shipping is a flat rate of $55.
What if I am not satisfied with my BuzzClip?
If you are not satisfied with your BuzzClip, you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org within 7 days of receiving your package and we will give you a full refund.
